Christmas Questionnaire

This Christmas Questionnaire comes courtesy of the LPM blog.
I thought it neat and fun and wanted to hear your answers!

1. Fresh Tree/Fake Tree?
Always Fresh... it's just not Christmas without the fresh smell of pine through the house!

2. Favorite Ornament?
The Nativity tree topper that my husband and I found a few years ago. I know it's not an ornament per say, but it does add to the tree. It is Mary, Joseph and they are holding Baby Jesus. It goes on top and it's beautiful! I love it!

3. Favorite Christmas Song?
White Christmas, by Bing Crosby -AND- O Holy Night, by Mariah Carey off of her Christmas album. Man that CD is sooo good.

4. Favorite Tradition?
Christmas Eve night at my Grandmothers. We'd eat, open gifts and then jump in the cars and go see the "The Fantasy of Lights" at the University.
Christmas Morning, my sisters and I would get up at the crack of dawn...okay it was still dark, and we'd sneak into the living room to see what Santa had left us. We'd grab them take them to our room where we could turn on the light and just gawk over what we each got. We'd never open them. Then we'd sneak back put them back in the rightful places infront of the tree and go beg momma and daddy to get up so we could open Santa & Christmas gifts. GOOD MEMORIES! How i miss being a child sometimes.

5. Favorite Gift Ever Received?
My Raspberry Tart rag doll. It was one of the Strawberry Shortcake characters. I loved that doll. I still have her too!

6. Favorite Christmas Meal?
Your typical holiday meal... Turkey, Dressing, Gravy, Mashed Taters, Cranberry Sauce (from a can), Rolls you bake in oven in the box and GREEN STUFF... aka: Pistachio Pudding w/ goodies. We always called it the Green Stuff. It's one of my FAVORITE things still to this day!

7. Favorite Christmas Cookie?
The "Secret Family" Christmas Cookies that we would make with my Momma every year. We also made the Icing too. Once you marry the recipe is handed down to you. These are quickly becoming my husbands favorite too. I am looking forward to making them in the next week.

8. Favorite Place to be?
With my family... wherever that is.

9. Favorite Memory?
I have so many... Refer back to Question 4.

10. Favorite Christmas Movie?
BY FAR.... "WHITE CHRISTMAS" with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney & Vera Ellen. It's just not Christmas without that movie!
Not to mention the "Frosty", "Rudolph" and "Charlie Brown" Christmas TV movies. Cant' forget those! That's tradition!

10 Years of Marriage...and counting

My how time flies... I just can't believe it's already been 10 years for hubby & I. As he pointed out this morning, that is just 2 years shy of the amount of time we were in school. Now that you put it that way... SHEESH, we've been married a heck of a long time. :D But I wouldn't have it any other way.

We met at "The Promise" during the first day of rehearsal in May of 1997 at the Jay's house on our lunch break. I had seen him from afar earlier that day at the amphitheatre and thought to myself "hmmm he's a cute new guy... definite prospect". Little did I know that I was looking at the man who would one day become my husband. It gives me butterflies thinking back on it now.

It was harrassment at first site. We were introduced and the picking on each other began immediately! We were in a lot of the same scenes together, so that made getting to know each other pretty easy. You see, he was playing the satan stunt double and i was playing a demon. (just ONE of our many roles in the show that year) in the temptation scene. There was one friday night we had rehearsal for just a few of the scenes and he & I got to sit out under the beautiful stars at the amphitheatre and just talk. We talked about our families and ourselves.... without any interruptions. We got to know each other. It was great!

A few weeks later, we had our first date. He swears to THIS VERY DAY that that trip was NOT INTENDED to be a date. But ladies, you tell me what you think this was..... He approached me at rehearsal and said, since we have tomorrow off, I was thinking about going to the FTW Zoo and wanted to know if you would like to come with me. I said yes and was CRAZY GIDDY inside. The next morning, I met up with him, and we went to the zoo. He paid for my ticket & lunch!! (DATE??) Yes, I think so!

As we walked around the zoo, he amazed me by his knowledge of scripture. I remember we were standing at the Lion's area looking at this glorious animal and he referred to Jesus being the Lion of Judah and how that meant strength and power. And scripture was never more real to me then that moment, when I was staring face to face with a real Lion. WOW!! We continued to talk and walk and then Suddenly... without warning... and neither of us knows how it happened or who made the first move.... we realized.... WE WERE HOLDING HANDS!!!

And our life has been a Fairy tale ever sense. (with battles & happyness that a fairy tale includes) We dated for a year & one month, beginning from that day at the zoo, before we were engaged and we married 5 months later on November 21, 1998.

There you go... that's our story... that's how it all started... and I am PRAISING THE LORD for such a wonderful life!

Please Christmas Don't Be Late!!!

I am soooo in the Christmas mood right now and we haven't even made it to Thanksgiving yet. If it were up to me, we would skip Turkey day and go STRAIGHT to Christmas. I would already have dug out the Christmas decorations and bought a tree and everything would be up, including Christmas music. Ahhhhh that would be nice! I am still seriously thinking about it.

I'm not sure why I am sooo gungho to have Christmas here already, because I haven't been this giddy for years now. Maybe it has something to do with my son finally being old enough to be able to experience Christmas. He was too young last year, but he is almost two. I want to teach him that we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on that day & that He is the Reason for the Season. AND - I am sooo excited to see his reactions to the tree, decorations, and Christmas lights all over the place and all of the stuff that makes sound. I want to sing him the Christmas tunes and teach them to him. And to dig out the DVD's of Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman. Oh I can't wait... i'm getting giddy just typing this up! ***eeeeee***

Not to mention, I have a SERIOUS CRUSH on Bing Crosby.... Oh my, that voice. I am sad that i never lived in the days of Bing, because I would so have been in love with him!! Okay, I am, but it's merely a crush now, because he is no longer with us. :( BUT... You just can't have Chirstmas without thinking of Bing Crosby. I mean you have him in the movie "White Christmas" and he sings ALL the holiday songs! He is everywhere! Oh and if you haven't seen that movie, OH MY STARS, You MUST Check it out because it is a wonderful classic. Ahhh I LOVE that movie, it is one of my favorites... it's an obsession really! But we wont talk about that! I have been trying to keep myself from diggin' the DVD out & watching it for the last few weeks now and I'm not sure If I can hold off too much longer. :)

Soooo as you can tell I am excited and I can't wait.... so Thanksgiving better hurry up!!

WHAT ARE SOME THINGS YOU
FIND EXCITING ABOUT CHRISTMAS?? Tell me about them... Cause I wanna know!

CALLING ALL MOMS!!

PLEASE SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME HELPFUL TIPS....... Before I rip my hair out!

How can you convince a toddler or/ discipline a toddler to KEEP that toddler from throwing/pushing the plate of food over the side of the tray of the high chair??

I am about to have a nervous breakdown! This is something that he keeps doing and I can't get him to stop. I am at my wits end here continuing to pick up plates of food that have splattered all over the kitchen floor, not to mention in trying to figure out what I need or can do to solve this problem. Please help!

Hair disaster & Fix

Okay I said stay tuned and though it's been longer than intended... here is the Haircut update.

Here is my before pic & the reason for the much needed haircut..

As from my previous post you saw the haircut i intended on getting and well, that is NOT what I received. The hairstylist, whom i've gone to for years, took one look at the picture I brought in and said she could do it and proceeded to cut or shall i say RAZOR away at my hair. Once I got done... it was NOT the style of the picture... at all. I was sooooo not happy. This is what it looked like!

So the very next thing I did... was call a friend who had an Amazing hairstylist and I asked for her number. I called she had an opening for the next day at 8:30 in the morning and I jumped on it. Her name is Monte and she was GREAT! She took one look at the pic, one look at my hair and said, UM...Let's fix that for you! I was overjoyed. She actually used scissors. And the end result was EXACTLY what I wanted!! SEE...

So now i have a NEW Haircut that I LOVE and a New Hairstylist!

No more ER tears Please!!

Okay, so i don't know who of you out in bloggityville still watch "ER" like I do, but let me tell you... i cried for a 2nd time over "ER" this season. I just don't know how much more of this I can take. This final season for the show is going to cause me to invest in stock for Kleenex.

I mean whose next to go? Two weeks ago on the season premiere (of all things) they kill off "Pratt", which caused me to cry so much I just about started hyperventilating and in tonight's episode, "Abby Lockhart & Luka Kovac" leave county hospital because they are moving to Boston. So now both of them are gone from the show too. That is three - count them - THREE of my favorites to leave.
( In case you aren't familiar w/ the characters... here are their pics)

Dr. Greg Pratt

Dr. Abby Lockhart ~&~ Dr. Luka Kovac

I am wondering if there will be ANYONE left at the end of the final season to actually say goodbye & goodnight too! I am curious who will be the next to go out of this group?

It makes me VERY SAD... because I have watched this show for over 12 years and now, it is coming to an end. I feel like a part of me is leaving each time one of these characters leaves. They become a part of your family after you watch their stories unfold for years every Thursday night. Okay I just got a huge lump in my throat now & am gonna cry again, so before I do... i'm gonna close this blog! :(

Writers block - Help!

Okay so seriously, I can not think of a thing to write about. I have received, as some say, the writers block disease and I can not for the life of me think of anything to write. Sad, i know, but it's true. Cause I could talk your ear off in person, but I can't think of anything to write about. Hmmmm, I wonder why? You would think with having a toddler that I would have PLENTY material to write about. I really need to try tapping into that well of toddlerhood and bringing out some topics by the pale full. I need to work on that. BUT until then, any suggestions? Anything that might help me get started? HELP!

Refreshing Monday

PRAISE THE LORD... I am feeling MUCH better!! Texas allergies can be such a bother. UGH!!
I have to say, I am NOT a fan!

Today a cold front started to move in and we had, some much needed, thunderstorms roll through here. And Ahhhhh, they were refreshing. I love the rain, the site, the sound and the smell of rain. I also loved hearing the thunder roll across the sky and the cool breeze that it brought. Oh it was a nice relaxing day. What is it about rain & thunder & the dark sky that is so relaxing? I have often wondered. But it was a nice breath of fresh air for sure and the air is cool with a great soft breeze. Mmmm, I could totally sleep outside right now, that is, if it weren't lightning! :D

I hope you all had a great Monday as well! :D

FIRST HAIRCUT!

Well yesterday was the passing of yet another milestone in the life of our little man. It was his FIRST HAIRCUT! He was rockin' the mullet & it was time for the mullet to go!! He was sooo good - he sat in that chair like a big boy and just watched her cut his hair thru the mirror. He didn't fuss once. I was sooo proud of him. We had both the video camera and regular camera there to record this huge event in the life of our boy! :) (Oh man, this is just going by WAY too fast for me!)

Saw Kirk Cameron in person

On Sunday morning, I had the chance to hear & see Kirk Cameron speak in person at a local church in this area. And can I just say that it exceeded my expectations.

Honestly, I was a little bit star struck & giddy at the thought of actually getting the chance to see Kirk in person. The teen dream man whose picture I had plastered on my wall back in Jr. High & High School. Oh I had such a crush on him, like every other girl my age. So to think that i would get to see him up close & personal, just put a permanent smile on my face as soon as I heard he was going to be in town & the whole drive in to the church. :D I was all giddy inside. I knew that Kirk was a Christian and was ON FIRE for Christ and that excited me even more. My Jr.High heartthrob was a follower of Christ... who could ask for better?? Well.....

We entered the church and I wanted to find THE BEST and closest seat I could find, but with no surprise all the seats on the floor were already full or taken. So we moved to the 2nd level and I found the perfect seat overlooking the stage, but just enough in front that I could still see his face. AWWW this will be GREAT and my friend and I took our seats! Worship began shortly after. This church had at least a 100 voice choir... they were GREAT!! :D After worship, the pastor introduced Kirk to the congregation... and there before me he stood. As handsome as I remember, but yet there wasn't any pride coming off of him as I remember seeing in that photo I looked at every night so many years ago. There was gentleness and humility in place of it now.
He was different. I was in awe.

He introduced himself and said that there was one thing that he MUST do before he began. He said that in the first 5 min. nobody hears a word he has to say because we all have that goofy grin on our faces & are starstruck because Kirk Cameron or Mike Sever - the character he played on "Growing Pains", was all we saw before us. Sooo to get us over that goofy starstruckness he said he would get the Mike Sever out & dealt with so we could move on. He asked us to start singing the "Growing Pains" theme song. So with encouragement from him, the congregation began to sing... "Show me that smile again...." and he took off his jacket, popped up his collar, spun around and went into his Mike Sever voice. He started acting out lines & scenes from the tv show. It was Great... there in front of us emerged that teenage boy Mike Sever. It was so funny. In 5 minutes he had done a montage of the entire show...it was great. The whole place was laughing and loving that he was doing this for us. He finished, put on his coat and said now that that is out of the way, lets talk about the real reason we are here, Christ. He was right, the goofy grins were gone and we were ready to listen.

He shared his testimony, which i will not go into, but you can check it out
here! And shared with us how his life was transformed from atheist to follower of Christ. It's an amazing story yall! He then went into his teaching/speech... He was saying that our nation is in major trouble, because we (as a nation) have turned from God. We have slowly begun to cut God out of control of this nation. He said, look at the history of Israel in the bible - we can compare what happened there & see if we recognize what is going on in America today. The bible says, that the Lord said if they, Israel, followed Him that He would bless them. But if they did not follow Him, that He would take those blessings away from them and bring destruction, plagues, floods, diseases etc.. SOUND FAMILIAR???

Kirk went on to say that with the elections coming up that this is a very important time for us Christians, because we need to really pay attention to who these men are & what they stand for - because WE (as a nation) don't need to help move God out any longer. Kirk made a good point, he said.... We have Govt. officials/politicians who get on the podium and profess that they love/follow God, but yet they stand for & support things that are un-biblical and completely against God. Something isn't right there!!

He said, that we (as Christians & nation) don't want to blame ourselves for anything that is going wrong/bad in the world.. we want to blame things on global warming/cooling, El'neno or other worldly things as an excuse.... but yet we as Christians are not standing up and doing what we should as Christians. We act as if we have the fire insurance, but we aren't living for Christ in our daily lives & are just going on as worldly people. We aren't helping lead this nation to Christ! We are like the harlot... we get satisfaction from other things & not from God and faith. We worry only about ourselves, going along with the majority, not offending anyone, we go on believing the media over God's word & God's standards for our lives. Tis true!!

He continued on with WHY we need Christ. Basically for a church definition an alter call, but this wasn't any ordinary alter call. He told us we need Christ and asked us 4 questions....
1) Have you EVER in your life, told a lie?
2) Have you EVER in your life, stolen anything?
3) Have you EVER in your life, used or said the Lord's name in vain?
4) Have you EVER in your life, committed adultery?

He explained as follows...
1) Ever lied..... yes, we all have - Then We Are a Liar!
2) Ever stole... yes, we all have - Then We Are a Thief!
3) Ever used God's name in vain... yes, we all have - Then We Are a Blasphemer!
4) Ever committed adultery.... **the room fell still & quiet**
Bible says in Matthew 5:27-30, that if anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery in your heart. Ouch! - yes, we all have - Then We Are Adulterers!

- so we are lying thief blaspheming adulterer at heart! Double ouch! The bible says that we are to follow the 10 commandments & will be judged by that... by this we have broken 4 of the 10 and still have 6 more pointing at us. Without the blood of Christ, without Christ in our life, we will go to hell. THE REASON FOR CHRIST! We can't get to heaven on our own terms, we can't get to heaven by our good deed or because we are a good person. We can ONLY get to Heaven through Christ in our lives. He paid the bail $$ with his life, to get us & keep us out of hell!

I PRAY that the Lord touches someone today with Kirk's message. It woke me up & put a fire back within me for the Lord. It convicted me, that I just go along in my day to day life, worrying about the wrong things. My goal as a Christian is to tell others about Christ!
I know this is a long post, but PLEASE check out this video of Kirk... it'll sum up more of what was said in this post. Don't go another day without Christ in your life!

Needing a Breather.....

Oh my stars, it has been a busy weekend!! Wow I am glad it's Monday, cause I need to take a breather...Phew! Not only did we have the threat of Hurricane Ike all weekend long, which by the way - where we were in Texas we only got a little wind & some much needed rain. Thankfully we didn't get the bad part of Ike. Well, Friday night we had "The Promise", the musical my husband and I are in. The show went well, but we didn't have a very large crowd. :( People stayed home because of Ike making it's way to Texas.

Here are a few pics from the show Friday night....

My husband as the Blindman

Me as Jairus' Wife

Me & Esther singing Via Dolorosa.

Due to Ike finally making it's way up towards Glen Rose and dumping non-stop rain, the show was canceled Saturday night. It was a nice night off. We had friends over and had really a lot of fun. The men played the Xbox and us ladies made jewelry. My friend Erin is teaching me jewelry making! It is a TON of fun and I have a lot of idea up in this little head of mine. Now if I can only get people to purchase the things I make we will be doing GREAT! :D

Sunday morning we had a Contact Team performance. What is a Contact Team performance you ask? Well I'll tell you... it is a small group of about 15 of us from "The Promise" who go to different churches in the DFW area & we sing a few of the songs from the show in costume. Basically we are giving people a taste of the show in hopes that they come out to see us. I love the Contact Team performances, because it is so much more intimate and you can interact with the people. Not to mention you get to meet so many sweet people & you get to talk to those that were just ministered to! Awww it's great!!

Here are a few pics from the Contact Team performance on Sunday....

It was a GREAT Sunday.... I'll be back later to tell you what I did Sunday night! :D
Can you say "Mamma Mia!" Live? Until then my friends!
